Daily Activities

Explore the original stone house of W.R. Motherwell, the Grand Old Man of Agriculture, and discover his influence in the development of farming practices on the prairies. 

Join staff at work in the fields, caring for the farm animals or tending to the grounds and property. Indulge in freshly made flavours at the Off the Beaten Path Café and gift shop. 

Pack a picnic lunch and hike the 1.5-km Stueck Nature Walk Trail to a nearby wetland that is habitat to a variety of birds. The observation platform is the perfect spot to bird watch.

Day Camps

Step back in time at Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site, where kids can dress as hired hands from the early 1900s and experience life on a prairie farm. They'll discover the joys of hands-on activities like harvesting produce and caring for animals. Even the youngest participants can join the fun in the Little Red Hen club, baking bread in the farmhouse kitchen and learning how wheat becomes a delicious loaf. Day camps at Motherwell Homestead have something fun for every kid.

Children’s Day Camps

Offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout July and August, this two-day camp welcomes children between the ages of 6-12 years. Children enjoy learning about life on the farm through role-playing, games and crafts. Activities include churning butter, making ice cream, rope making and tending farm animals. 

Little Red Hen Camps

You are never too young to start understanding how to harvest and prepare food. Parents with children between the ages of 1 to 6 can join the Motherwell Homestead’s hired hands for a midday bread baking experience, learning what it takes to make a loaf of bread from start to finish.

Daily Fun from Field to Fork

Golden fields of wheat stretch beneath endless prairie skies at Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site. Join farmhands for a day of immersive activities, from morning cow milking to feeding chickens and baking fresh bread. Explore self-sufficient living, learning about traditional plant uses and the vital connection between the land, animals, and Indigenous communities that once surrounded the homestead.

Motherwell Homestead Métis Festival

Motherwell Homestead and Métis Nation – Saskatchewan Eastern Region III presents the Motherwell Homestead Métis Festival. A day filled with vibrant celebration of Métis culture. Enjoy music, jigging, storytelling and children’s activities. Traditional food, teachings and demonstrations will also be available to make for a memorable day with the whole family.
