Making memories at the Motherwell Homestead
The Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site, near Abernethy, opens after the May long weekend for another season of fun on the farm. The homestead is where W. R. Motherwell made his mark on Western Canada’s agricultural history.
Here are some activities offered at the Motherwell Homestead this season.
Explore the original stone house of W.R. Motherwell, the Grand Old Man of Agriculture, and discover his influence in the development of farming practices on the prairies. Join staff at work in the fields, caring for the animals or tending to the grounds and property. Indulge in freshly made flavours at the Off the Beaten Path Café and take a stroll along the wetland trail.
Stueck Nature Walk Trail
Pack a picnic lunch and hike the 1.5-km trail to a nearby wetland that is habitat to a variety of birds. There is perfect viewing from the observation platform. Take your time and enjoy the comfortable rest area, equipped with picnic tables.
Offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout July and August, the two-day camps welcome children between the ages of 6-12 years.
