Nestled south of Candle Lake, Aschim Homestead Heritage Forest spans 320 acres and was originally homesteaded by the A. Aschim family. The site boasts a two-storey log house, furnished with period-appropriate items, along with various outbuildings, a demonstration woodlot, and refurbished benches. Interpretive nature trails meander through the property, leading visitors to the "long lost climbing tree" via a scenic boardwalk. The forest offers a chance to observe beavers in their natural habitat.
In winter, the parking lot is ploughed, and marked snowshoe trails invite exploration. Bus tours can be arranged in advance, and an active hiking club meets weekly from spring through fall. Email for more information.
Candle Lake Communities in Bloom received the “Heritage Recognition Award” in recognition of their dedication to preserving the Aschim Homestead Heritage Forest. While picnicking is welcomed, open fires and camping are not permitted. For convenience, garbage and recycling receptacles are available.
