The small, ranching community of Wood Mountain, situated near the junction of Hwys 18 and 358, is home to Saskatchewan's oldest rodeo, the Wood Mountain Stampede held in early July. Community services are limited, but just 8 km south of the village, visitors have access to camping and a swimming pool at Wood Mountain Regional Park. Adjacent to the park, the Rodeo Ranch Museum, open May to September, provides history of the area and information for Grasslands National Park East Block. The Wood Mountain Post Provincial Historic Park, also adjacent to the regional park, is open during the summer and highlights the early days of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP), and the relationship between Major James Walsh and Sitting Bull.
