Lanigan is the home to 2010 Olympic Silver Medalist, Cori Bartel (women's curling) and 2013 Stanley Cup champion Sheldon Brookbank, and other NHL hockey players which include Bobby Baun, Brian Propp, Todd Strueby and Wade Brookbank.

Major industry is no stranger to Lanigan. It is home to one of the largest potash mines in North America, Nutrien Lanigan Potash. While Saskatchewan's newest potash project, Greenfield Potash Project, BHP Billiton Jansen Project is under construction just east of town. The community signs on Hwy 16 and 20 say it all, "Welcome to Lanigan, The Land of Potash". Located 8 km east of the community is the largest feedlot and ethanol plant in Canada, Pound-Maker Adventures Ltd. Agriculture thrives in the area and is referred to as the "sure crop" area.

With the twin engines of potash and agriculture driving the economy, tourism is also thriving in the area. Check out the restored CPR train station and other displays at the Lanigan and District Heritage Centre. Nearby is the Lanigan Golf & Country Club, a 9-hole grass greens golf course and the Lanigan Lions Campground.
