Weekend Getaway in Regina

It’s happening again: Saskatchewan winter. Snow is falling, windshields are frosting and temperatures are plunging well below the OBSI (Outdoor Board Shorts Index).

Before you hit the ‘buy’ button on tickets to Hawaii in a blind panic, take a moment and consider a weekend getaway closer to home. Drop the kids off with family, put your phones away and take a well-earned Regina weekend for yourselves.

Day 1

Book a suite at the The Hotel Saskatchewan, Autograph Collection overlooking downtown’s Victoria Park. Relax in the comfortable Circa 27 Lounge and enjoy an appetizer or a Smoked Old Fashioned. Then button up your jackets and head across the street to the The Rink @ City Square. Free skate rentals are available onsite.

After your skate, get cleaned up and stroll over to Avenue Restaurant. Prairie-inspired cuisine and creative cocktails await at this impeccably designed restaurant. If you feel like hearing live music, The Cure Kitchen + Bar hosts local bands, DJs and open mic nights, and is only a block away.

Day 2

Next morning, take it slow. Order room service, or throw on a comfy sweater and take a short drive to Skye Café and Bistro for brunch (try the chilaquiles with avocado or the Hawaiian pancakes to really feel like you're on a tropical island). Weather permitting, you can stroll through adjoining Wascana Centre. If conditions are right, feathery white hoar frost will be decorating the trees and bushes throughout the large urban park.

Explore exhibits at MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina's largest art gallery featuring pieces from across Saskatchewan, Canada and the world. Take a break at Victoria's Tavern with pub-style appetizers and local brews.

In the evening, wander to the nearby Casino Regina, only a few blocks away. Housed in the historic Union Station, the casino has table games, slot machines and live entertainment in its Vegas-style Show Lounge. Finish your evening with a glass of wine back at the hotel. Ask the server about the all-Canadian wine list. We leave the rest of the evening to you.
