Owner Kassidy Dunsing is originally from the hamlet of Livelong, SK, just south of Meadow Lake. When Dunsing took over the business three years ago, she decided to put her own twist on the menu, adding starters like steak bites and deluxe nachos, and a beverage line-up of cocktails, wine and craft beer.

“I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 10 years,” Dunsing said. “I started out as a dishwasher and have worked my way up over the years. From small town bars to big city corporations and fine dining private banquets, I’ve done it all! So, when the previous owner [of Eatery on Main] approached me about taking over her business, I could not pass up the opportunity.”

Menu favourites at Eatery on Main include fresh, colourful salads and mouth-watering burgers. The Classic Burger is a particular customer favourite, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato and all the fixings. Eatery on Main is also known for its wide selection of homemade cakes and cheesecakes that are made fresh daily. Popular favourites include the carrot cake, and the Ferrero Rocher, Mini Eggs, and Oreo cheesecakes.

“When I took over the business, they were doing maybe one cheesecake a day, and now we go through four cheesecakes every day. They’re just so popular,” Dunsing said.

Fair Trade coffee is always on the menu and there’s plenty of warm and cold drink offerings to enjoy alongside dinner or dessert. For those with food sensitivities or dietary restrictions, Eatery on Main goes above and beyond. Gluten-free buns are available for burgers, flatbread melts can be done gluten free, and there are many vegetarian options, including smoothies, bowls and veggie burgers.

When asked what she likes most about Eatery on Main, Dunsing says it’s the community vibe that makes it an incredible place.

“It’s so homey here. You feel like you’re at home and you know everyone,” she said. “We always greet people by name, and if we can remember their food and drink orders, we do. I think people feel welcome here and I think that’s what sets us apart.”

Centre Street is the place to be in Meadow Lake, and there’s plenty to see (and eat!) within a couple of blocks. Martodam’s The Clothing People is a great place to do some shopping, as it carries men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and shoes. Then head to Solitude, which is a trophy and engraving shop that also has a selection of home goods, including art, plants and decor. If you’re craving something sweet, Cookies on Call offers take-out treats like fudge, cake, gourmet popcorn, and of course, cookies. It also has hot and cold beverages and take-out food like taco-in-a-box and loaded hotdogs, if you’re looking for something to-go.

Bonus points

Meadow Lake Provincial Park is one of the largest provincial parks in all of Canada. It’s also home to the Boreal Trail, which is the only year-round destination backpacking trail in Saskatchewan’s provincial parks. The trail stretches 135 km and has numerous start and end points. Meadow Lake Provincial Park is also a great place to enjoy winter activities like cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and snowshoeing.
