Located near Abernethy, the Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site, invites guests to dig deep into the past and discover the many ways of self-sufficient living. Take in teachings of traditional plant uses, listen the leaves of the shelter belt trees rustle, touch the many different kinds of furs while learning more about the use of animals and land used by the settlers and Indigenous communities that surround the site. Celebrate the annual festivals on the farm with knowledgeable staff in historic clothing on hand to help show you the ropes from milking the dairy herd to feeding the pigs. Rediscover a long-forgotten sense of connection to this land, to its animals and to its people. Later at the long table, share pride in the harvest’s bounty and break homemade bread with new friends.
