Wanuskewin Heritage Park is a National Historic Site, and Proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site. This land has been a gathering place for all Nations of the Northern Plains to meet for trade, for hunting and for ceremony. This tradition continues today as Wanuskewin has been a global gathering place for the past thirty years, welcoming guests from all corners of the world.

With an up-to-date, contemporary interactive exhibit space, learn what made the opimihāw Creek such a unique place on the prairies. Explore the stunning Indigenous artwork from emerging and established artists across Canada. Situated on Saskatoon's northern edge, Wanuskewin Heritage Park interprets over 6,000 years of Northern Plains Indigenous culture. It is the longest running archeological dig site in Canada. Features include 19 pre-contact sites, a medicine wheel, tipi rings and buffalo jumps, located along 7 km of walking trails. 

The site is now home to a herd of Plains Bison, descendants from the last 1,000 bison that remained on the Great Plains by the year 1870. Follow the trail from the paddocks and take in these majestic animals from the raised viewing platform.

The gift shop is the place to shop for authentic First Nations traditional handmade artworks. Browse the selection of handmade items such as jewellery and baskets, beautifully hand-beaded moccasins, mukluks, and incredible stone carvings, plus a selection of foods, fine art and clothing. 

Wanuskewin's​ restaurant is the perfect place to experience a unique sense of culture. Enjoy amazing First Nation’s cuisine, with a modern flair, made from the freshest local ingredients. The menu includes bison, hearty soups and stews, delicious teas and more. Experience first hand why the restaurant was named one of the top ten Indigenous restaurants in Canada by Food Network Canada.

Adventure Destinations Field to Shield 6-Day Culinary Tour

Saskatoon, Batoche National Historic Site, Missinipe, Lac La Ronge Provincial Park, Elk Ridge

Hosted by Chef Jenni Lessard and Adventure Destinations, experience the Field to Shield Culinary Tour, an authentic experience showcasing Saskatchewan's culture and culinary uniqueness. Enjoy a six-day/five-night culinary tour of Saskatchewan. The tour travels from Saskatoon with stops at Batoche National Historic Site and Elk Ridge Resort, ending up in the Boreal Forest for a four-night stay at Thompson's Resort.

While in the Boreal Forest, learn about Indigenous culture and local ingredients and savour fantastic food. On the return trip to Saskatoon, the tour stops at Wanuskewin Heritage Park and finishes with a wrap-up meal at Hearth Restaurant in Saskatoon. For 2025, there are two tours to choose from: August 24 to 29 and September 7 to 12.
