          Makwa Lake Provincial Park

          Public Trails, Winter Activities

Featured as an all-season park, Makwa Lake Provincial Park offers many opportunities for visitors to immerse themselves in nature, to relax and enjoy water activities and to create memories with family and friends. The park has over 30 km of hiking trails, accessible from the administration office or Stabler Point and Mewasin Campgrounds. Makwa Lake Provincial Park boasts six hiking trails, five of which are groomed in winter for cross-country skiing. The trails are suitable for beginner to advanced hikers and skiers and range in length from 0.7 km to 3.4 km. They meander through diverse landscapes (from poplar stands and marshes to jack pine forests) and allow visitors to view wildlife and bird species and engage in plant identification. Makwa Lake Provincial Park's trails have also become a special place to capture life-changing moments, such as wedding or engagement photos, amid nature's beauty.

The Tom Ouellette Nature Trail originates at the administration office and makes a 3.4 km loop on the east side of the Park. With an elevation change of 200 ft., visitors are treated to scenic views of the Bronson Forest in autumn with the larch, birch and aspen trees adorned in vibrant hues of red, yellow and orange. In the winter, this trail is groomed for snowshoeing. The evergreens provide a beautiful backdrop to a winter wonderland.

Once the park receives a good amount of snow, staff set 15 km of cross-country ski tracks on Poplar, Birch, Pine, Spruce, and Alder Trails. To cater to the less experienced outdoor seeker, Aspen Trail provides a dedicated snowshoeing route, ensuring a distinct experience away from ski tracks.
